TCL arrived betting on cell phones with good differences in 2023 and this time we have in our hands the 40 NXTPaper in its 4G version. Its biggest highlight is the screen with a matte finish that imitates an e-reader for more comfortable reading. But is this your only strong point?
The design has its own identity and has a matte finish on all sides to prevent it from slipping easily and also does not accumulate finger marks easily. The front reminds us of those anti-glare films and has a nice touch that tries to imitate a sheet of paper.
The large screen with 90 Hz LCD panel is not only good for reading your digital books, but also for consuming videos and games. The large stereo sound is good immersion and we have power within the range seen in the segment. And for reading, there are two modes: one that leaves the screen monochrome and another that just reduces the saturation.
Performance is due to the Helio G88 combined with 8 GB of RAM. It delivers good multitasking performance by keeping everything open in the background, but it is not the most agile in the segment and also presents a bit of stutter in more demanding games. The battery even lasts all day, as long as you don’t demand too much from the device. For those looking for the TCL 40 to read news and books, it will have autonomy for more than a day.
The photographic set consists of a 50 MP camera that takes good photos even in low-light locations, thanks to its efficient night mode. The secondary comes with an ultra-wide lens of just 5 MP and captures only decent images and suffers even in closed spaces. Finally, we have a 2 MP macro that only does the basics. The camcorder records in Full HD with rear and front, but lacks in stabilization and sound capture.
