How to send a private message on twitch with a whisper
Launched in 2015, whisper arrived on Twitch with the expectation of increasing interactivity among platform users, giving the network a more social aspect. Basically, whispering to a specific user is the equivalent of sending a private message.
Through the feature, you can get closer to other viewers or even your streamer favorite. Also, it doesn’t interrupt the chat flow and can give more attention to a specific conversation; especially in broadcasts with a lot of audience where it is almost impossible to follow what is happening in the chat.
Check out how to send a whisper on Twitch below. The process is basically the same on the computer and on the platform app for Android and iOS.
- To send a whisper, just go to the broadcast chat and type the following command:
/w [nome do usuário] + texto da mensagem
- Alternatively, while still in the chat, you can also click on the desired username and click on the “Whisper”/”Whisper”. A conversation window will open right next to the chat.
As the whisper feature is global across Twitch, it’s not limited to just viewers of the channel you’re watching. That is, you can send messages to anyone on the platform – as long as you know your nickOf course.
- To do this, click on the chat icon located next to your profile picture. You will be able to scroll down the menu and see (and reopen) all available chats;
- To start a conversation with a new user, use search to find the person and click on them. A conversation window will open at the bottom of the screen.
- On mobile, tap “start a whisper” and search for the desired user.
You’ve learned how to send whispers on Twitch!
As said, you can also follow the steps described above to send a whisper to your streamer favorite. However, it is worth noting that a large part of the streamers will have their whispers turned off to avoid the flood of contacts making it impossible for you to send messages.
As you may have already noticed, it is possible to have multiple chat windows open at the same time. However, it is not yet possible to have group conversations within Twitch.
block whispers
Just as it is important to know how to send whispers, it is also essential to know how to block them, preventing the arrival of messages from an inconvenient user.
- For these cases, just enter the following command in the chat:
/block [nome do usuário]
- Alternatively, you can also click on a user name, click on the three dots icon and select the option “Block”.
- If you are already in a separate chat with the person, the process is also quite simple. Click on the gear icon located at the top of the window and select the option of “Block [nome do usuário]”.
Now, if you want to block whispers from strangers in general, see the instructions below. This way, you will no longer receive direct messages from other users – unless you follow them, let them be streamers that you signed up, that they are your mods or editors, or that you sent a whisper first.
- Click on your profile picture located at the top of the screen and click on the option to “settings”;
- Now in “security and privacy”, activate the option switch “Block whispers from strangers”.
You’ve learned how to avoid getting whispers from strangers and how to block annoying users!
