He Constitutional Court (TC) advanced to next Tuesday, March 21, the vote on the unconstitutionality requirement presented once morest seven of the 13 pardons presented at the end of last year by President Gabriel Boric.
The request for illegality was entered by opposition senators and points to six benefits delivered to prisoners of the social outbreak, as well as the one that was granted to the ex-frontist, Jorge Mateluna.
The vote was scheduled for March 23, but the body chaired by Nancy Yáñez brought the date forward following receiving the new records requested from the Ministry of Justice.
The TC had considered that there was a lack of information to give a verdict. For this reason, it issued “measures to better resolve”, requesting background information regarding pardon petitions dated before and following December 29.
In response, the Minister of Justice, Luis Cordero, issued a document confirming the processing of a new pardon: “After December 29, 2022, a request for a private pardon has been submitted to this Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, the which is currently being processed in the Pardons Section.”
