MUSIC – The death of a Brazilian fan of Taylor Swift in the middle of a heatwave, during a concert by the American star in November in Rio, is the consequence of a phenomenon of“thermal exhaustion”according to the autopsy report published Wednesday by Brazilian media.
The 23-year-old young woman, among the 60,000 spectators of the first of six shows at « The Eras Tour » given in Brazil, died due to “thermal exhaustion due to diffuse exposure to heat” following a “cardiovascular shock” and hemorrhage of the lungs, which led to ” sudden death “.
Ban on bringing water during a heatwave
Many fans complained regarding the ban on bringing bottled water inside Nilton Santos Stadium when the temperature was around 60 degrees on the day of the concert.
The day following this tragedy, Taylor Swift said to herself ” devastated “postponing the following concert by two days, which also started an hour later than initially planned (8:30 p.m. instead of 7:30 p.m.).
The boss of the company responsible for producing Taylor Swift’s tour in Brazil, Serafim Abreu, CEO of Time For Fun, then presented his « excuses »recognizing that it would have been necessary “take additional measures, such as installing shaded areas outside (the stadium where the concert took place) or changing the concert schedule”.
He explained that the victim had been “quickly taken care of” and that the medical team had “chose to transfer her to the hospital following regarding an hour of emergency care”.
Like several Brazilian cities in the center and southeast of the country, Rio faced a strong heat wave in November, with sweltering temperatures unusual for the southern spring.
