Taxi strike will paralyze Athens
 2024-02-23 19:57:41

On the two days of the new strike they announced, a General Assembly of the sector will be held to harmonize their statutes with what the legislation stipulates, while a rally and protest march to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has already been planned. SATA calls on motorists from all over Greece to rally by participating in the mobilization.

As stated in the relevant announcement:

The SATA board has categorized its demands and is fighting for them with all its might:

– Free passage in bus lanes for loaded taxis.

– We want an answer from the Government, because it allows illegal applications that use either taxis or E.I.X to pay no tax, to take their money abroad, leaving legal professional motorists with only tax burdens.

– Adjustment of pre-determined price for the route Athens Airport – City Center from 40 euros to 45 euros (tariff 1) and from 55 euros to 60 euros (tariff 2).

– Permanent stay of the VAT rate on taxi services at 13%.

– Removal of the mandatory registration of new taxi cars only with zero emissions from 2026. The proposal of SATA is to postpone this obligation for 2035.

– Legislation for the special license and adjustment of the criminal record.
With this regulation, the obstacle of granting or renewing the special license of E.D.X. should be dealt with. car, when from the criminal record certificate for judicial use to prove the attendance of para. c’ of par. 2 of article 95 of law 4070/2012 (A82), offenses of article 100 of law 4070/2012 arise.

– Regarding the adjustment of the penalties, we propose:

– Violations such as customer harassment, violation of priority in the square, overcharging customers, currency changes, to be transferred to the category of high-rated penalties with an administrative fine of 1,000 euros and removal of a special license.

– Review and digitization of special permits.

– Correct implementation of the digital platform for E.I.X. contracts. and creating a register for guided rentals. Increase of the minimum contract price of E.I.X by 33%.

– Clear and without gray areas separation of the services provided by the Taxi and the rental car with a driver. Only taxis provide urban transport. With the taxi the passenger makes urban transport. With E.I.X he buys time for his movement. Getting from point A to point B is a task that belongs to the taxi. No tolerance for misinterpretations like those attempted by the former deputy minister Michalis Papadopoulos to favor the rentals with a driver.

– Immediate implementation of the decision of the Ministry of Finance (Papanatsiou) on the collection of the fee.

– Exemption or reduction of VAT for the purchase of a commercial car that is classified as an ETX Taxi.

– Abolish the pretense fee.

– Subsidies for the purchase of all types of cars classified as taxis, or an increase in the age limit for the classification of a used car as an ETX from five (5) to eight (8) years.

These are all issues that have not been resolved and are holding the industry captive to stagnation. For the presidency, the government’s indifference is a cause of war. The Board of Directors of SATA decided at its meeting yesterday that there is no time to lose.

We call on all colleagues to turn their backs on partisan unionism and corporate interests that are poisoning our industry. The taxi will always be on the side of the wronged and the fighters. Never with the submissives and the partisans.

OLME participates in the strike mobilization on February 28, which calls the teachers to the mobilization.

The announcement states:

“One year will be completed on February 28, 2024, since the unacceptable death of 57 of our fellow citizens in Tempi, which shocked the Greek people, and still those responsible for the tragedy have not been held accountable. A year later we are here once more on the streets, to shout that we DON’T FORGET. We will continue the fight so that those responsible are exposed and held accountable.

Colleagues, colleagues,

Policies that put profits first have disastrous results for the people and society. We must resist the policies of privatization of public goods and austerity.

The government, although it is no longer limited by the memorandums, refuses to give substantial increases to our salaries and misleads the employees in the State with the meager increases it gave from 1-1-24 (40 euros net per month, i.e. not even 1.5 euros per day) while the Minister of Finance falsely states that the average net increase for civil servants in 2024 is 1,425 euros. Fourteen years following the memoranda, with which our salaries were reduced by 40%, the government is operating with the continuation of the income policy of austerity, which leads the employees in the public sector to a prolonged austerity.

The newly appointed teachers, who are called to serve on the islands with a rent of 400-500 euros per month, are paid only 734 euros net per month. The same applies to other categories of Public Servants. The government has no money for the public officials, but it has for the Governors of the public organizations and bodies to whom it gave increases of 76% per month!

Colleagues, colleagues,

Against this situation we must all react unitedly and strongly! On the 28th of February we are going on strike together with the workers in the Private Sector. We demand living and working rights, real raises, meaningful measures to address punctuality.

We claim:

  1. A horizontal increase of 10% in the salaries of the employees in the State, in order to deal with the accuracy and inflation.
  2. Reset gifts here and now
  3. Collective agreements for our wages
  4. Abolition of the 2016-17 salary freeze
  5. Abolition of the 2% unemployment levy
  6. Increase of the tax-free allowance to 12,000 euros.

7. To immediately staff all critical public bodies (health, education, social services, insurance, etc.) with permanent employees and to upgrade all necessary infrastructures.
