The Asemptaxis union assures that the municipal administration did not make the decision.
After the mayor, Daniel Quintero, announced this Friday the return of the peak and license plate for taxis in Medellin As of next March, the unions that offer this service raised their voices of protest and maintained that the local president did not agree with them on the decision.
The claim was led this Friday followingnoon by Juan David Lopera, leader of the asymptomatic, association that brings together companies such as Tax Andaluz, Flota Bernal, Tax Belén, Taxsuper and Cootransmede (CTM).
“What the mayor says, regarding the fact that he arranged with the taxi drivers the measure of the pick and plate, which was a request from us, is not true”, asserted Lopera, stating that, although the union welcomed the return of the two-digit peak and license plate for private vehicles, it seems to them that the return of that restriction for taxis is an improvised measure.
It should be remembered that the statements to which Lopera alluded occurred during the morning of this Friday, February 18, when the mayor, without disclosing further details, indicated that the pick and plate for these public service vehicles would return next month.
“Why was the bill and plate measure for taxis removed? Because we went from one digit to two digits and additionally we wanted to stimulate in some way that they might provide the service every day. But they themselves have asked us to put a beak and a badge on them, the taxi drivers themselves,” Quintero said.
Despite the imminence of this measure, which would come into force in a week, the mayor pointed out that Not all the details have been defined yet. as if it would be one or two digits or how the rotation of the numbers would be distributed.
In Lopera’s opinion, the return of regulation would be a kind of contradiction, since the parallel cut in the private car park and in the taxi fleet would only generate as a result a reduction in the mobility offer for citizens.
“We are aware that the road network does not allow all users to have a private vehicle, so what we have to do is discourage private transport and promote public transport. So we cannot take away the possibility of the citizen to go in his private vehicle and at the same time reduce the global number of taxis in the city”, said Lopera.
