In order to allow the authorities to create new civic momentum among taxpayers, the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) launched last February the month of exemplarity. On March 31, 2023 in Ouagadougou, the staff of the Primature freed themselves from their tax obligations during the exemplarity day organized within the structure. According to the Head of Government, Appolinaire Joachimson Kyelem de Tambèla, this initiative aims to set an example and invite the citizens of the country to follow suit.

The operation was held on the site of the Primature. It had the participation of all the staff of the institution. They paid their taxes to a team from the Directorate General of Taxes who was on site. These include the Motor Vehicle Tax (TVM) and the Residence Tax (TR).

The Prime Minister first lent himself to the exercise before inviting the populations to follow suit because, he said, it is a civic act. “Without taxes, a state does not exist, and without taxes, there is no citizenship. It is through the consent to tax that the citizen shows his commitment to the construction of his nation” he declared.

According to him, currently the priority of priorities is the fight once morest terrorism. The payment of taxes is therefore a source of financing for the purchase of equipment. We will have to stop thinking individually to think collectively. So it is through everyone’s contribution that we can move forward together.

He then expressed the wish to see Burkina Faso develop thanks to the commitment of its populations, like countries like Switzerland, which is also a landlocked country. “There are poor countries like Switzerland and Israel that are prospering thanks to the commitment of their citizens. If we are committed, we can make our country the Switzerland of Africa,” he said.

The Deputy Director General of Taxes, Talato Éliane Djiguemdé, thanked the Prime Minister for this act, which reaffirms the government’s commitment to work to set an example at the top of the state. “Together, each citizen must realize that we are all called upon to contribute to the construction of our country”.

For her, the mid-term assessment of the operation is satisfactory. “We had good coverage. The Ouagadougou mobile team deployed in several structures. Our services have welcomed many public officials who have gone there on their own. In the 13 regions of the country as well as in the provinces, operations were organized and we had fairly good coverage. Halfway through, we can show our satisfaction for the enthusiasm observed and the effect that it has on the average citizen,” she indicated.
