Tatum scores 24 points; Celtics beat Spurs 117-98

BOSTON (AP) — Jayson Tatum scored 24 points and Jaylen Brown returned following missing a game to score 21 points in the Boston Celtics’ 117-98 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday.

Victor Wembanyama, the young star of the Spurs, played for the first time in the legendary Boston arena. The Frenchman, the first pick in the draft and who measures 2.21 meters (7 feet 3 inches), scored 10 points in the first quarter, when San Antonio kept the score tight.

He finished with 27 points and five rebounds in 27 minutes. The Spurs (7-33), who have the worst record in the Western Conference, suffered their third consecutive loss.

Jrue Holiday scored 22 points and Luke Kornet matched his season high with nine rebounds for the Celtics, who won for the third time and improved to 20-0 at home, extending a franchise record.
