President Ersin Tatar noted that the mission undertaken by the Turkish Cypriot farmers while organizing their organization, besides laying the foundations for the survival of the Turkish Cypriot people today, is instrumental in the survival of the producer, his view of the land with his bread, his production and most importantly, his future with hope.
President Tatar published a message on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Cyprus Turkish Farmers Union.
President Tatar’s message is as follows;
“The mission undertaken by the Turkish Cypriot farmer while being organized, besides laying the foundations for the survival of the Turkish Cypriot people today, has also been instrumental in the survival of the producer, his view of the land with his bread, his production and most importantly, his future with hope. The Cyprus Turkish Farmers Union was founded on May 1, 1943, exactly 80 years ago, by our producers, having to leave the union they had established with Greek farmers a year ago. The adventure of its establishment was one of the foremost shoots of our national struggle. Initially, seeds of hope were planted for the future of our country’s producers, with 72 delegates and a board of 15 people from all over the island. The contribution of the farmers to the economy cannot be underestimated under difficult conditions. The importance of agriculture and agricultural production has once once more come to light due to the epidemics that swept the world today. Not only in our country, but also in our world, we have experienced days that will be considered milestones before and following Covid-19. Problems in the supply chain of agricultural products, especially following the war between Russia and Ukraine, supply security of agricultural products; once once more reminded us of the importance of protecting our farmers and agricultural lands.
On the occasion of its 80th anniversary, the first executive committee chairman, Behçet Mirata, who contributed to the establishment of the Turkish Cypriot Farmers Union, the general secretary M. Kemal Deniz, the cashier Ali Rauf, the executive board member Bekir Naci as the chairman for many years. I commemorate Hüseyin Gültekin. In addition, I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the managers and producers who contributed to the Cyprus Turkish Farmers Union’s success.”
