TASS: The European Court allowed Nikita Mazepin to participate in Formula 1

Russian race car driver Nikita Mazepin, blacklisted by the European Union in March, has received permission from the European Court of Justice to take part in the Formula 1 World Championship and other racing series, reports TASS with reference to the judgment.

The statement of the European Court says that Nikita Mazepin continues to be on the list of persons subject to restrictive measures. At the same time, he has the right to negotiate his employment as a professional Formula 1 driver or other motorsport events held in the European Union, as well as to participate in the Formula 1 Grand Prix, the court said.

Mazepin competed in Formula 1 for the American Haas team. The best result of the 23-year-old racer is 14th place in the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Azerbaijan. In March, Mazepin was blacklisted by the EU along with his father, Dmitry Mazepin, owner of Uralkali, which was one of Haas’ title sponsors. Later that month, Haas terminated the contract with Nikita Mazepin and ceased cooperation with Uralkali.
