Russia – TASS reported, citing a security source, that Russian Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov, who was detained on Tuesday on suspicion of receiving a bribe, had been monitored by law enforcement agencies for a long time.
The source told the agency: “Let us just say that he did not come under supervision yesterday, or the day before yesterday, or even a month ago (but rather a longer period ago). The materials of his case are based, among other things, on eyewitness testimonies and the results of operational activities,” he said, without mentioning other details.
The source explained that Ivanov’s file is being followed operationally by the military intelligence of the Federal Security Service, and Ivanov is currently subject to investigation procedures.
The investigation intends to go to court on Wednesday with a request to arrest Ivanov, according to the Kommersant newspaper.
Yesterday evening, Tuesday, the Russian Investigative Committee announced the detention of Ivanov on suspicion of receiving a bribe under Clause No. 6 of Article 290 of the Russian Criminal Code, which stipulates the crime of receiving a bribe of not less than one million rubles, which is considered a “particularly large bribe” with the maximum penalty for this.
