Tariffs on electric cars send car manufacturers to their knees

Just over a year later, Brian Rasmussen had to realize that he couldn’t get the well-known car dealership running either.

That is why the now 63-year-old mechanic-trained owner and director of Jans Auto in Hobro has himself asked to have his company taken under bankruptcy proceedings.

This appears from statstidende.dk.

Brian Rasmussen does not want to put the situation into words – but instead refers to curator Jens Weinkouff Højmark from the law firm HjulmandKaptajn.

– In the end, it had to be recognized that it was not possible to make ends meet. And then you have to make the hard, but in many situations also the right decision, states the lawyer.

Jans Auto has invested particularly heavily in the sale of new Chinese electric cars – including the Maxus van and passenger cars from one of China’s largest electric car manufacturers, Jianghuai Automobile Co. Ltd – also called JAC.

Jens Weinkouff Højmark states that it is in particular the duty that the EU has imposed on the import of electric cars that has forced Jans Auto to its knees.

– A large part of the sales of new cars in Jans Auto has dropped significantly as a result of the punitive tariff on Chinese cars. At the same time, over time, unfortunately, it has also had to be acknowledged that the turnover has not been able to keep pace with the expenses that have been incurred, the lawyer states.

He has not yet created a complete overview of the financial situation at the car dealer, which at the time of bankruptcy had seven employees.

– I don’t know the size of the debt, but it is several million. How many I dare not say, says the curator, who has a clear goal with his work in the coming weeks.

– It is of course trying to save the company. In the best case scenario, a new “Brian” or a new “Jan” will come in and buy the activities, so that we can save some of the seven jobs, says Jens Weinkouff Højmark.
