Quentin Tarantino has announced that he will shoot his tenth and final film in the fall – the script is ready. The film will be called The Movie Critic and will take place in 1977.

Retired at 60: Director Quentin Tarantino plans to shoot his tenth and final film in the fall. “I’ve finished the script for what will be my last film,” said the 60-year-old director of cult films like Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill on Wednesday in Paris. “I think we’ll probably shoot in the fall,” he added.

Tarantino’s new film, to be called The Movie Critic, will be set in 1977. Tarantino denied rumors that the film would be regarding New York film critic Pauline Kael. He emphasized that it was not regarding a specific film critic. In any case, it is certain that the presumably last film by the director will be associated with high expectations among Tarantino fans.

Tarantino, who turned 60 on Monday, has announced several times that he will be retiring following ten films. The two parts of “Kill Bill” are counted as one film.

Cult status through “Pulp Fiction”

Tarantino made his directorial debut in 1992 with Reservoir Dogs. The brutal low-budget film regarding a robbery gone wrong is considered a classic of independent films. At the latest with his next film “Pulp Fiction” Tarantino achieved cult status.

Early in his film career, Tarantino tried his hand at acting. He also occasionally took on small roles in his own films. Tarantino then had more success as a screenwriter for films that were very gory, such as “Natural Born Killers” and “From Dusk Til Dawn”.

Tarantino’s films are also characterized by numerous references to films and other works of pop culture. His explicit, often satirically exaggerated depictions of violence have often been criticized. In 2018 he married the Israeli singer Daniella Pick, who was 20 years his junior, and their son was born in February 2020.
