Tapbots launches Ivory, its alternative client for Mastodon

If you’re part of the wave of people who decided to leave Twitter following the end of support for third-party clients, here’s some big news: the Tapbotsdeveloper of the late Tweetbot, launched today on the App Store the long-awaited Ivoryyour alternative client for the social network Mastodon.

Still in early access, Ivory takes the look and experience of using Tweetbot to the main rival of the network commanded by billionaire Elon Musk – all while integrating its main features and bringing a series of improvements.

With versions for iPhones and iPads, the app has a very easy-to-navigate interface that brings a much higher level of customization than the official Mastodon client. It is possible, for example, to change three of the five icons that are displayed by the app at the bottom of the home screen (such as notifications, search, lists and more).

After connecting to your Mastodon account, you are greeted with your traditional social media feed, ie the one that only shows posts from people you follow. There are two other types of feeds: the Local (which, as its name suggests, only shows posts from people close to you) and the Federed (which also shows posts by people followed by friends).

Ivory has a big advantage over Tweetbot: as Mastodon allows developers to have access to a very wide range of social network resources, users can participate in polls and post GIFs in the client without having to use the platform’s official app. Twitter, it is worth remembering, never released these features to independent developers through its old APIApplication programming interfaceor application programming interface.”>1.

You can also add multiple accounts, change the app’s font style and size, change the theme color, and change the size of the preview photos/videos on the timeline. As it is still the first version of Ivory, some features such as editing profiles and posts are not yet available, but Tapbot has already said that it will add them in a future update (which also includes a version of the app for Mac) .

As said, Ivory can now be downloaded for free from the App Store. It has three subscription options: one of BRL 10/monthanother of R$80/something and an extra one for those interested in supporting the project of R$130/something. There is no one-time purchase option, but it is possible to use a “demo” version of the app before you start paying for it.
