Taoji suspects drone intrusion affects 9 flights, 1 of which was diverted to Kaohsiung

(Central News Agency reporter Wu Ruiqi Taoyuan Airport on the 18th) Taoyuan International Airport Co., Ltd. was reported at 5:42 pm today that suspected drone activity was visually detected on the north side of runway 23R, and the takeoff and landing of 2 runways were immediately suspended for 30 minutes, affecting 9 flights, of which 9 Flight 1 diverted to Kaohsiung and resumed normal takeoffs and landings in the evening.

The Taoji Company stated that following receiving the notification from the public, in order to maintain flight safety, in addition to immediately informing the tower to suspend takeoff and landing on the two runways, the aviation management unit also immediately went to check with the officers of the Aviation Police Department of the Police Administration of the Ministry of the Interior.

Taoji said that the incident caused EVA Air’s flight BR392 to divert to Kaohsiung Airport, and the total number of affected passengers was 1,187 according to the flight volume forecast.

The Taoji Company stated that the drone’s intrusion into the airport control area caused a serious threat to flight safety and affected the rights and interests of passengers.
