“We have received information regarding the Ebola outbreak in Uganda and the government has activated surveillance teams in high-risk areas,” Aifello Sichalwe, chief medical officer of Tanzania’s Ministry of Health, told Xinhua by phone. .
Mr. Sichalwe said his ministry has activated surveillance teams in high-risk areas of Kagera, Mwanza, Arusha, Mara, Kigoma and Dar es Salaam.
According to him, the ministry has also boosted the supply of medical supplies to these regions.
Screening checks for the Ebola virus have been introduced at all entry points to the East African country, including airports and borders, he said.
Mr Sichalwe said health authorities were also raising awareness of the disease among the general public, including its symptoms of fever, headache, fatigue and nosebleeds.
On Tuesday, the Uganda Virus Research Institute confirmed a case of the so-called Sudanese strain of Ebola virus following testing a sample taken from a 24-year-old man.
Ebola virus disease is a serious, often fatal illness that affects humans and other primates.
