Tanzania: investigation into a mysterious disease that killed three people

#Other countries : Tanzania has sent a team of doctors and health experts to the southeast of the country to investigate a mysterious illness that has claimed the lives of three people, Tanzanian authorities said on Wednesday.

The disease, whose symptoms include nosebleeds, fever, headaches and fatigue, has been detected in the Lindi region, said Aifello Sichalwe, the government’s chief medical officer.

«The government has assembled a team of professionals who are still investigating this unknown disease.»Sichalwe said in a statement, calling on residents to remain calm.

A total of 13 patient cases were detected, three of whom died.

Sichalwe adds that the patients tested negative for Ebola, Marburg virus and Covid-19. One of them is cured while the others are in solitary confinement.

Ghana detected two suspected cases of Marburg virus, a hemorrhagic fever almost as deadly as Ebola, last week.

At a religious gathering on Tuesday, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan said that «the strange» disease detected at Lindi may have been caused by «growing interactions» between humans and animals due to environmental degradation.
