Since its creation and throughout its development, the Tanger Med Group has deployed a gradual and evolving social responsibility approach, in coordination with the constituent stakeholders of its ecosystem, and with a permanent concern for the protection of the environment. Tanger Med ensures that it adopts a consistent and multidimensional CSR approach, integrated into both its operational businesses and its support functions. These projects carried out directly by Tanger Med or through its Foundation,
in an approach that is both inclusive and has a strong impact on the territory, are available
along five major axes and 10 commitments.
The Tanger Med Foundation, carrier of a proactive action on the territory
Since its creation, the Tanger Med Foundation has always paid particular attention to the education sector by carrying out high-impact projects with the local population with the aim of reducing school drop-out and improving schooling conditions in the region.
Some 870. This is the number of projects carried out by the Tanger Med Group as part of its CSR policy since 2008. Projects that have benefited nearly 534,000 people. For the year 2021 alone, the port complex has brought out no less than 54 development projects for the benefit of nearly 38,440 beneficiaries, mainly from the local population. If the Tanger Med Group displays today, with supporting figures, a good dynamic of social responsibility, it is because the complex has accumulated several years of CSR actions with high added value. It should be remembered that with the launch of Tanger Med in 2003, the area of intervention, which is rural in nature, gradually experienced a real socio-economic dynamic which manifested itself through in particular the creation of road, motorway and rail networks allowing the opening up of villages now served by public transport, as well as by the creation of basic services and infrastructures (administrations, health centres, amenities and urban development).
Four years following the launch of the port complex, the Tanger Med Foundation was created to translate on the ground, in a structured way, the societal commitments of the port complex. It carries, carries out and accompanies structuring projects in partnership with local authorities, governmental institutions and local associations. The actions of the Foundation revolve mainly around the fields of education, health, professional training and socio-cultural issues.
Strategic directions
“Since its creation in 2007, the Tanger Med Foundation has worked to provide relevant and lasting responses to the problems of the populations surrounding the Tanger Med port, industrial and logistics complex. It has worked to create favorable conditions for the emergence of sustainable development models in the area of intervention in accordance with the group’s strategic orientations in terms of CSR”, can we read in the 2021 CSR report. add that the vision of the Foundation was born from a desire to create a new development model where each component of society can find its place to contribute to the regional and national effort to create wealth. “A material wealth declined in developed roads, renovated schools, health centers, cultural spaces, women’s cooperatives and IGA. An equally immaterial wealth, that which can be read on the faces of local residents singing their heritage, celebrating their cultures and telling the stories of their ancestors,” explains the group.
The Tanger Med Foundation has always paid particular attention to the education sector by carrying out high-impact projects with the local population with the aim of reducing school drop-out and improving schooling conditions in the region. Among the achievements of the Foundation, we note the upgrading of 120 schools in Fahs Anjra province, the construction of 36 preschool classes, school transport for the benefit of primary, middle and high school students in Fahs Anjra province. and the establishment of “Dar Taleb” and “Dar Al Fatate” reception centres. The Foundation is also active in the distribution of textbooks and school supplies and the distribution of prizes to the best graduates in the region.
Teaching of excellence
In addition to these major achievements, the Tanger Med Group can be proud of two major inclusive and innovative education projects: the Lycée Méditerranéen (LYMED) and the 1337 school. The Lycée Méditerranéen is the result of a partnership with the Ministry of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research. “Intended for the most deserving Moroccan students, from all social backgrounds, LYMED’s mission is to train them, in their country, in an inclusive framework of social diversity, conducive to respect for diversity and the promotion of equality. chances. By carrying out such a project, oriented on the development of human capital, the Tanger Med Foundation is helping to establish a foundation of sustainable excellence in the Northern Region”, explains the Tanger Med Group. The Lycée Méditerranéen opened its doors in 2021 to welcome its first promotion of students in the MPSI sector (Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Sciences), from scientific preparatory classes to the major Moroccan and French engineering schools. This first promotion has two classes made up of students, 36% of whom come from the North region. The LYMED campus extends over 3 hectares and offers a study environment with the highest standards, both in terms of the infrastructures made available to the students and the supervising teams dedicated to their educational support.
In addition, building on the success of the two campuses of the 1337 School located in Khouribga and Benguerir, the Tanger Med Group is carrying out, through its Foundation, the creation of a third campus called 1337 MED in partnership with the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University. (UM6P) and school 42. School 1337 offers completely free training in computer development and coding, accessible to all, without the prerequisite of a diploma or computer knowledge, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Improve the quality of life of the local population
In addition, the Tanger Med Foundation works on basic infrastructure in the municipalities adjoining the Tanger Med port, with the aim of improving the quality of life of the local population. Access to drinking water, a basic necessity, is the most dominant problem in the area. Tanger Med, through its Foundation, has set up a program to connect to the drinking water network in the douars bordering the port complex. This program responds to the need to keep up with the pace of socio-economic development and population growth experienced by the area and to provide basic necessities to enable people to live in dignity.
In the same vein, the Foundation has contributed, since 2016, to the management program of….
