Tamron has just announced a firmware update for two of its flagship lenses: the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD and the 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD in Sony E mount. The result is improvements in terms of autofocus.

Improved autofocus tracking for moving subjects

Autofocus tracking is crucial for photographers, especially in situations where subjects are moving. With this update, Tamron promises a significant improvement in AF tracking performance, allowing photographers to easily maintain tracking of a moving subject.

Compatibility with the AF assist function of the latest Sony bodies

This update also makes these two lenses compatible with the AF Assistant function of recent Sony bodies. This, present in particular on the A7 IV and more recent bodies like the A7C II, makes it easier to manage focus transitions by allowing you to switch to manual focus mode by touching the MAP ring . When you stop using the focus ring, the in-focus subject becomes the new target for the autofocus system. An addition awaited by many videographers.

Firmware update available now

These two updates (v3.00 for the 35-150mm and v4.00 for the 28-200mm) are available today on the official Tamron website.

In conclusion, this firmware update demonstrates Tamron’s continued commitment to improving and optimizing the performance of its products, meeting the growing needs of photographers and videographers around the world.
