According to the Korean media The Elec, Chinese panel maker BOE (BOE) reportedly modified the iPhone design without authorization and was banned by Apple (AAPL-US) found that, in addition to being excluded from the iPhone 13 supply chain list, it is now likely to lose a large order of 30 million iPhone 14 OLEDs, and Samsung and LG are expected to get the transfer orders and become big winners.
It is reported that BOE has arbitrarily changed the internal design of the iPhone and widened the thin film transistor (TFT) circuit to improve its own OLED yield rate. This behavior was discovered by Apple earlier this month, and Apple immediately ordered BOE to stop production.
The market originally expected that BOE is expected to enter the OLED supply chain of Apple’s new machine this year, but the time has entered the stocking period of Apple’s new machine. BOE has not received any OLED orders from Apple so far.
BOE’s C-level supervisor recently went to Apple’s headquarters to explain the whole incident of OLED unauthorized design changes, and tried to find out whether to obtain orders for new OLEDs, but did not receive a positive response.
Apple is likely to hand over the 30 million OLED orders originally allocated to BOE to Samsung and LG for production, and production of new OLED panels is expected to start next month.
Apple’s new OLED panel orders are expected to increase by 7% to 15 billion units, and use low temperature polycrystalline oxide technology (LTPO) to increase the number of screen frames and make the picture smoother.
Samsung is expected to be responsible for the 6.1- and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro panels, while LG is expected to provide OLED panels for the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max.
