The Tampa Bay Rays beat the Oakland Athletics 11-0 on Saturday to improve their young record to 8-0, becoming the first team in 20 years in the MLB to go undefeated in its ninth game of the season.

The Rays are the first team to start a season with an 8-0 record since the Kansas City Royals won their first nine games in 2003.

They also have 64 runs for and just 18 against, making it the first 8-0 team to win their games by more than four touchdowns since the St. Louis Maroons won their first 14 games in the same way in 1884.

In turn, no team had won 8 straight games with such a run difference since the 1939 New York Yankees did the same in 10 straight games.

For his part, Randy Arozarena hit his second home run of the season, driving in four runs and leaving his average at .367.

Isaac Paredes and Brandon Lowe each had three RBIs and starter Jeffrey Springs pitched seven innings, striking out seven, walking three and allowing just three hits and no runs.

Which team will stop the Rays?
