Tallahassee Home’s Halloween Light Show Raises Funds for Sick Animals

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) — As the hauntingly festive season approaches, one residence in Tallahassee is already enchanting the neighborhood with a mesmerizing light display. A devoted couple, Catherine and Doug Baer, have created a truly unique experience, aiming to spread joy while also supporting a noble cause dedicated to aiding sick animals.

For over 16 years, Catherine and Doug Baer have turned their home on Woodgate Way into a dazzling spectacle. What began as a modest holiday decoration effort has evolved into a captivating production, featuring synchronized music and an impressive array of more than 12,000 twinkling lights, attracting crowds each evening as Halloween draws near, as shared by Catherine Baer.

“Honestly it brings people together and it puts joy in their hearts and when they’ve got joy in their heart, they go and share it with other people too,” Baer expressed, highlighting the profound impact the display has on community spirit.

The Baers graciously offer this light show free of charge but encourage visitors to contribute through donations, which are directed towards Companion Animal Rescue Endeavor, affectionately abbreviated as CARE.

CARE Tallahassee is a vital nonprofit organization committed to treating animals suffering from serious illnesses and injuries that standard rescue operations often cannot accommodate, according to veterinarian Sondra Brown.

Working at Northwood Animal Hospital, Brown explained that the CARE initiative was established in 2012, and since then, the Baers have successfully raised $10,000 for the lifesaving program, showcasing their dedication to animal welfare.

“In vet medicine, a lot of times there are sad cases and things you wish you could do and so it’s nice to have a nonprofit where there’s an animal we could save and will save, and using the funds and having a fun event like a Halloween light show, that really does help save animals’ lives,” Brown stated, underscoring the importance of community events for fundraising efforts.

Once the animals receive the necessary care and are rehabilitated, they are placed up for adoption, aiming to find them loving forever homes where they will be cherished.

The Baers invite everyone to enjoy the dazzling light show each evening leading up to Halloween at their address, 1421 Woodgate Way. A donation box is conveniently located in their front yard for those who wish to contribute.
