Talking about sexual pleasure to prevent STIs

In any case, this is the observation made by the members of The Pleasure Project, the sexual and reproductive health department of the World Health Organization (WHO). Through their meta-analysis of 8 studies conducted on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, they observed that evoking the pleasure associated with sexuality improved the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Indeed, according to the studies in which this aspect of well-being was addressed, the participants were more inclined to receive information concerning the more preventive aspects of sexuality, including the use of condoms.

“Pleasure has long been dismissed, even stigmatized in the promotion of safe sex and sex education in general,” the authors recall. And this “despite its obvious link to sexual health and well-being”. Their work thus confirms the importance of including considerations related to pleasure in the use of condoms in particular. This improves the prevention of STIs but also, by extension, reproductive health.
