Rodri set a special record on Sunday by remaining unbeaten with Manchester City in his 59th match in a row. The Spanish midfielder won the derby once morest Manchester United with Man City.

The 27-year-old Rodri has become an indispensable part of manager Pep Guardiola’s team, with the Spaniard within the lines, Man City wins regarding 75 percent of its matches in the Premier League. Rodri came to England in the summer of 2019, Man City took him over from Atlético Madrid and has not regretted it for a second.
With a run of 59 games without defeat, Rodri is now the record holder in England. In February 2023 (!), Man City last lost a match with Rodri on board. That was in an away match once morest Tottenham Hotpsur, when Harry Kane, who now plays for Bayern Munich, scored the only goal of the match. Ricardo Carvalho was the previous record holder, when he did not lose for Chelsea in 58 consecutive matches between 2006 and 2008.

In between, the reigning national champion did lose in matches, but the Spaniard was a bench seat or was not present in those matches due to a suspension/injury. At the start of this season, Man City lost the Community Shield battle to Arsenal, but this only happened on penalties. This result is therefore classified as a draw.
Rodri will get another chance to extend his record across all competitions on Wednesday. Man City will then play the return match once morest FC Copenhagen in the eighth finals of the Champions League. The first match in Denmark, with Rodri of course within the lines, was won 3-1 by the English.
