“Talents well managed by good riders with horsemanship”

Hyperion’s representative in Sweden, Maucca Kärki, sees a development over time in the Swedish show jumping horses. Hyperion’s commitment to the SWB Trophy is long-term and she is more than satisfied with what she got to see in Scandinavium’s arena.

– I am very proud of all the riders and horses here, they show good horsemanship and that is important for the sport, especially in these times. Here in Sweden, there is both horse knowledge and good handling of horses. A big difference today compared to five years ago is that the horses have more blood and the modern type has also established itself in Sweden. Then the maternal lines may not be as full of performance so far, but that will come over time.

In the 5-year-old class, the gelding Cassandro was at the top of the price list and his rider Emma Odervall was really satisfied.

-Cassandro really loves this, following we won at SWB Equestrian Weeks last fall, he got to rest at his owner’s house for two months. When I started him following the rest he was as good as last fall, maybe everything fell into place. I think on Breeders he really blossomed. I had a very good feeling at home and it was the same when I rode today. He has proven to me that this is good and easy. And then it’s no problem to set Falsterbo as a target this summer and later Breeders once more, says Emma.

The winner in the 6-year-old class is an experienced man Niklas Arvidsson and the family had a good day in Gothenburg with a victory for daughter Linn and an ATG victory for Niklas himself. The qualities of Caribbean Blues have made Niklas reevaluate his own career. The approved stallion has sporting merits from every year of his life

-He has behaved very well, did 4-year-old in Falsterbo and won, same thing with Champion of the youngsters a few years later. He was in the final at the Young Horse WC.

At home on the farm in Halland, there are three jumpers who are probably all eager to sit on Caribbean Blue’s back.

– I feel that this horse makes me want to keep betting. Actually, I had thought that I would only ride slightly younger horses and maybe not really bet, but this horse is not so easy to pass on in the family. He makes me think ahead, says Niklas.

The plan ahead is nailed down.

– This year we will do some international competitions now and he will be in breeding this year as well. Then possibly he will be available via frozen sperm because as a 7-year-old there will be a competition.

Second place in the 6-year-old class was Niclas Swerre’s breeding Fudge, ridden and trained by Stephanie Holmén. They did their last competition together as the gelding has been sold to national team rider Wilma Hellström.

-Fudge is really a horse that answers all questions very well, he has a really high minimum level. I think it’s important to emphasize that just because Fudge and the other horses here today are so successful, they haven’t raced much. Until Falsterbo, they have to compete for a bit to get routine, rounds and qualifiers. After Falsterbo, Fudge has only attended these championships and not competed in between.

Getting to ride in Scandinavium is a real hit, thinks Stephanie Holmén.

– It is so grateful that we get to come here and ride because it is also the competitions that are the most developmental for the horses.

In the 5-year-old class, it was a practical test winner who took second place. Rebecca Milton and Chaccafly CL reached the final by victory in the SWB Stallion Trophy last autumn when three approved stallions, all foreign born, were narrowly separated.
– I have ridden him since he came to us at Lövsta as a young horse and he has been such a nice individual the whole time. He will cover this summer so we have to match with that in mind going forward, Rebecca Milton said.
