Takeover of ‘extremists’ on Twitter, an unusual move by the prominent British newspaper Guardian – World

The popular British newspaper Guardian has announced a complete boycott of social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

According to news agency Reuters, The Guardian said that no more posts from its official X account would be shared. The Guardian newspaper cited the presence of disturbing content on X, saying that it shares racist and conspiratorial content.

The Guardian said: “We believe that it is no longer acceptable to stay on X, the disadvantages of staying here will outweigh the advantages, and we now plan to use our resources to promote our journalism on other platforms. .

The Guardian has more than 10.7 million followers on X and is the first major UK media company to announce a full boycott of the platform.

The Guardian wrote in an editorial published on its website that it believes that the disadvantages of X are more than the advantages and that the resources to promote journalism can be better used elsewhere.

These are things we’ve been considering for some time because the platform often promotes disturbing content, including far-right conspiracy theories and racism, the editorial wrote.

In response, Elon Musk called The Guardian ‘irrelevant’ on X and said he was defending freedom of expression.
