Announced in WWDC23o 15 inch macbook air has already gone through the classic dismantling of iFixit. The process consists of disassembling the device, piece by piece, showing the necessary steps to do so, in addition to commenting on the issue of repairability of the device and on the arrangement of components internally.
Overall, the new computer is, also on the inside, quite similar to its smaller brother — which has also been dismantled by iFixit. The differences are, of course, concentrated in the larger size of components such as the battery, the display and the touchpad, as well as the speaker, which now has six woofers once morest four for the 13.6″ model.
As in the smaller model, the battery — 25% larger than the 13.6″ — has straps that allow you to pull the component, although it can only be accessed following removing several other parts. This process of removing the computer board was, as usual, criticized by iFixit for being impractical, involving a lot of screws and hardware.
The absence of a fan on the computer was also commented on, which is only possible thanks to the architecture of the M2 chip (and Apple Silicon in general). Despite being one less component to break, the repair firm said that this can cause the MacBook to overheat, as well as jitter and crashes.
The note given to the 15.3″ MacBook Air followed the pattern of evaluations given to Apple products by iFixit: out of 10 points, the computer achieved only 3, due to difficulties in terms of reparability. It was pointed out that the product might have gained two more points if Apple already provided parts and manuals for it.
