Take-Two Interactive is no stranger to accusations of greedy microtransactions, but there are rarely any real consequences aside from angry gamers who still buy the publisher’s games every year. But occasionally someone gets fed up, and that’s already happening now as Take-Two is hit with a lawsuit over microtransactions in the NBA 2K franchise. Axios reports that the accusation is one of “theft” because the virtual currency you purchased for the game was nearly stolen from you when the servers were shut down – which often happens in a quick way. As you know, although this is a simple solution, it is not possible to transfer old currency to the next game. The practice is now being called “unfair, illegal and greedy” in a class-action lawsuit filed days ago in federal court in California, and Take-Two has yet to comment on the lawsuit. We’ll make sure to keep an eye on the case and get back to you with more information on how this story unfolds.
