“We’ve been walking for peace since the beginning of the Ukraine war – once a month on the Wolfsegger Friedensweg,” says pastor Margit Schmidinger from Ottnang. The Dean’s Office has put together a program for the “Upper Austria Garden Season 2023”, e.g. B. Walking for Peace Fortnightly on Tuesday.
The peace cross in the village of Wolfshütte (municipality of Manning) was erected by the then owner of the Bucherhof, Franz Daxl, in 2005 on the occasion of “60 years of peace in Austria”. Ten years later, the Peace Path was initiated by Heidi Dietl and Josef Nagl and connected to the Peace Museum in Wolfsegg.

“This nine-kilometer pilgrimage route inspired us to take a closer look at the topic of peace,” says Schmidinger. As a result, the path was redesigned and an accompanying booklet for the peace path was created. “We can all contribute to peaceful coexistence with our actions, our attitudes and actions,” explains Schmidinger. “The impulses along the way invite you to think regarding it.”
The Peace Trail consists of nine stations and starts at the Peace Cross in Wolfshütte and leads to the Peace Window in Wolfsegg. In the accompanying booklet, the pilgrims will not only find inspiration, but also GPS data. Every second Tuesday, pilgrims accompany the pilgrims to the Schanze in Wolfsegg, where the memorial to the Peasants’ Wars is located.
The Friedensweg is just one of several pilgrimage paths in Upper Austria, which are often committed when starting a new relationship or out of gratitude for a stage in life. It was the same with Andrea Reisinger from Vöcklabruck, who has been making pilgrimages regularly for 17 years.

After intensive family time, she wanted to enjoy a few days off with a friend and went on the Via Nova. Since then, her passion for pilgrimage has never left her. “For me, pilgrimage is the most sustainable exercise in relaxation and trust,” says Reisinger, who has been the consultant for pilgrims and pilgrim accompaniment in the Diocese of Linz since April 2020. July 25th is World Pilgrimage Day – perhaps an occasion to celebrate one of St. pilgrimage to the church dedicated to James.
