Take Care of Your Heart: Prevention and Chinese Medicine for Healthy Aging

2023-06-14 07:25:00

This was the message of the conference given by doctors Jean-Paul Dechaux and Bernard Lamy on Tuesday followingnoon at C2 in front of 80 people. An audience made up of 99% seniors of course.

By the way, at what age are you senior? In the sports field, it is between 18 and 36 years old for certain sports. Then we enter the veterans category. It is customary to use the term senior when speaking of an elderly person, although the age of a senior is not defined by geriatricians. A person is considered to be aged from 60 to 65! It won’t please everyone!
We have our heart for life, Jean-Paul Dechaux reminded us several times. At birth, it weighs 20 grams and 15 times more in adults. But the number of cells remains the same throughout life, hence the importance of protecting it. Doctor Dechaux will then talk regarding figures that are chilling: 400 deaths per day in France, the leading cause of death among women of all ages and men over 65, 40,000 cardiac arrests and very worrying, 25% of cardiovascular capacity lost in children in 40 years! From the age of 50, prevention becomes an emergency for healthy aging. Hence the importance of screening from this age, daily physical exercise and a healthy diet.

The subject that Doctor Bernard Lamy will then deal with “The heart in Chinese medicine” is in a different register, but the objective remains the same: to preserve one’s heart.
The main function of the Heart in Chinese medicine is to house Shen psychic, spiritual and luminous energy which throughout our life will nourish our consciousness. The zone of the Heart, is the place of reception of the “Heaven” in us, the Man being hyphen between the Sky and the Earth. Emotivity, anxiety, palpitations, insomnia are symptoms that this preventive medicine knows how to take care of, thus avoiding the transition to more serious cardiovascular disorders.
“What diseases fear most is a relaxed body and a peaceful and joyful heart” Chinese medical proverb.
