Samsung’s SmartThings platform works as a facilitator in people’s daily lives, as it allows the user to control different equipment in the home, such as televisions, soundbars and air conditioning units, in a practical and uncomplicated way. But it’s not just through your smartphone that you can access SmartThings. Notebooks and PCs with Windows 10 and 11 have their own version of the platform to offer much more comfort and practicality, allowing you to control your home environments directly from the computer while you work, study, or have fun. The possibilities offered by SmartThings for Windows are many. You can, for example, turn connected devices on and off, activate already created scenes, create new configurations and preview the feature SmartThings Find to locate your Galaxy device, be it a smartphone, tablet or Galaxy Watch. To use, start by downloading the SmartThings via the Microsoft store on your device and sign in to your Samsung account to provide the necessary usage permissions. It is important that this login is performed on the same Samsung account that your SmartThings devices are logged into. After the login step, you will notice that your equipment will automatically appear on the platform.
In SmartThings for Windows it is possible to activate and deactivate existing devices through the navigation panel, as well as scenes created via smartphone. Scenes allow the user to control multiple selected devices at once. To activate a scene, simply select the “Scenes” feature in the navigation panel and select the Playback icon next to the desired scene. It will be activated automatically if the associated devices are online. See more details in the video below:
SmartThings for Windows even allows you to add existing devices or scenes to your favorites. To do this, simply go to the desired location and tap ‘Favorites’ in the navigation panel. If it’s your first time, scroll to the bottom of the page and select ‘Choose Favorites’. Click on the devices and scenes you want and select ‘Done’. Go to ‘Save’ to confirm. If this isn’t your first time doing this, go to the ‘Favorites’ page, select ‘More Options’ (three vertical dots) and tap ‘Edit Favorites’.
With SmartThings for Windows you can also add a room or edit existing ones. To do this, navigate to the desired location for a new room and tap ‘Add’ in the super right corner. Then select ‘Add Room’, enter the chosen name and click ‘Done’. The new environment will appear in the location you selected and you can drag and drop devices into it. To rename a room, click on ‘More Options’ next to the name of the desired room and select ‘Rename’, then enter the name of your preference.
If you want to rearrange your rooms, click ‘Reorder Rooms’ in the ‘More Options’ menu. Then drag and drop the arrows to reorder them. Remember to click ‘Save’ to finish. Finally, you can still delete a room by selecting ‘More Options’ next to the name of the desired room. Tap ‘Delete’ and select the environment to which the devices will be moved when the previous one is deleted.
SmartThings for Windows also offers access to extra features, such as the Settings menu and SmartThings Support contact information. You can use the resource to access useful guides on how to use the platform, create a support request, and adjust notification settings, personal data, and application information.
