Tajik proposed for safe second place in Oslo Ap – Gunaratman has not given up

The Oslo Labor Party presented the nomination committee’s first draft of recommendations for the 2025 general election on Sunday evening.

Several media reported on the nominations on Sunday evening, among other things Oslo newspaper , TV 2 , Aftenposten and NRK before the party itself released the committee’s first draft.

Hadia Tajik (41) is placed in second place. She received a clear majority with eight of the votes in the nomination committee. However, the committee’s member from the Alna district insisted on Kamzy Gunaratnam getting second place.

– As the committee’s minority, I believe that the majority’s recommendation is not in line with the input and signals the party organization has given through the member meetings in the party teams. As the committee’s minority, I am concerned that the candidates for the Storting list should have strong support from the grassroots in the party, writes Laial Ayoub about why she disagreed with the majority.

Sturgeon on top

Party leader and Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre tops the list, while deputy leader Jan Christian Vestre is set for third place.

Seven of the committee’s members want Agnes Nærland Viljugrein in fourth place, while two want Trine Lise Sundnes in this position. Frode Jacobsen is currently number five on the list.

At the election in 2021, Oslo Ap received four seats in the Storting. When Foreign Minister Espen Barth-Eide said no to re-election, the third place on the list became vacant.

Said no to another place

In the initial nomination round in the Oslo Labor Party, Kamzy Gunaratnam was better than a Tajik. She received support from 41 local teams, while Tajik received support from 33.

– The committee has been keen to present a unanimous proposal. Therefore, it was investigated with Kamzy Gunaratnam whether she would be willing to make herself available for another central place on the list in order to achieve unanimity. The candidate did not want this, writes the nomination committee about the nomination on Sunday evening.

The committee further writes that it was also investigated whether Gunaratnam could be proposed by a majority for a central place on the list, but she was not interested in this either.

– Clear voice

In a post at Facebook on Sunday evening, Kamzy Gunaratman explains why she has chosen to remain on a minority dissent for second place instead of saying yes to another safe place on the list.

She points out that it would be a mistake if the party’s deputy leader, Jan Christian Vestre, did not get third place on the list when he wants it. She also writes that she believes fourth place should go to either AUF or the trade union movement. For these reasons, she finds it most natural to remain in the second place she holds today.

– Being in a minority dissent is tough. I wouldn’t have done it if it hadn’t been for the strong support from the many local union representatives and members who ask me to keep going, she writes.

Grateful Tajik

Tajik, who has previously been both Ap deputy leader and cabinet minister, had originally said no to re-election to the Storting for Rogaland. In September, however, she made it clear that she wants to be on the parliamentary election list for the Oslo Labor Party.

– The first draft for the nomination committee is now available for how the Oslo list for the Labor Party should look from next autumn. I am grateful that many party groups have signed me up, and that a large majority in the committee want me to represent Oslo Ap, writes Tajik on his public profile at Facebook Sunday evening.

– I will be a clear voice for Oslo, she writes further.

Nomination meeting on 26 November

Before the nomination meeting on Tuesday 26 November decides who will be at the top of the list of candidates ahead of the 2025 election, and thus get a place in the Storting, the proposal will go out for consultation in the party teams in Oslo.

11 November is the deadline for submitting comments. On 19 November, the committee’s final proposal will be sent out.
