A 35-year-old Singaporean tourist, Brendon Au, originally planned to travel to China this year, but changed to Taiwan because his visa was blocked. Unexpectedly, he fell in love with Taiwan. In just three months, he went to Taiwan for the second time. He said frankly that since there are no mainland tourists in Taiwan, “Taroko has become very empty, and it is more relaxing to enjoy the scenery.”

According to Hong Kong’s “South China Morning Post”, compared with when it was crowded with Chinese tourists before the epidemic, some tourist attractions and landmarks in Taiwan are relatively quiet, forcing people who rely on tourism to adapt to new trends.

Brendon Au, a tourist from Singapore, is keen on traveling. He visited Taiwan for 6 days in May and once more in July. He revealed that he had traveled to Taiwan in 2019, but it was crowded with people. This year is very different. Brandon Said: “I used to find ways to avoid popular attractions, but now Taroko has become very empty, and it is more leisurely to enjoy the scenery.”

The Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Communications stated on the 11th that the number of tourists coming to Taiwan will grow steadily in 2023, and it is expected that the 4 millionth person will arrive in early September. According to the Tourism Bureau, the number of tourists coming to Taiwan from various source markets in the first half of this year, including Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, and the new southbound markets Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, etc., and the long-term European and American markets have all exceeded the epidemic situation. In the first half of the level, the proportion of tourists from the new southbound market to Taiwan has increased from less than 30% before the epidemic to 40%, which shows that the tourist market to Taiwan is gradually recovering.
