Taiwan Taekwondo’s “National Girlfriend” Luo Jialing participated in the year-end Taekwondo Championships held in Manchester, England. Before the semi-finals once morest Chinese opponent Luo Zongshi, she suffered an acute injury. Although she took painkillers and finished the competition, she was unable to stand following the competition and received medical treatment on the sidelines. Despite the situation, she was still unable to participate in the bronze medal match, resulting in her finishing in fourth place and missing out on qualifying for the Paris Olympics. Luo Jialing was worried that signing the withdrawal agreement might affect her chances of participating in the next competition. Coach Liu Congda issued a post later explaining the incident.

The Jialing Grand Prix finals reached the semi-finals, finishing in fourth place, and the year-end ranking was confirmed to be sixth in the Olympic volleyball team.

After entering the semi-finals yesterday, Jia Ling told me during warm-up that her ribs were very painful and she even felt uncomfortable breathing. She said that she had not been kicked in the first two games and it had been a while since her last rib injury. Old wounds are okay. At that moment, she asked the guard for painkillers and then went on the field. During the fight, she clearly felt that Jia Ling might no longer push and compete with the opponent.

After the game, Jia Ling returned to the inspection area and might no longer stand. The conference doctor immediately pushed a wheelchair into the treatment room for inspection and gave Jia Ling an analgesic injection first, hoping to relieve Jia Ling’s symptoms.

Originally there was still a bronze medal match to be fought, and Jia Ling wanted to hold on for another bronze medal match, but seeing her condition, I knew she was holding on. Since I mightn’t determine the extent of Jia Ling’s injury, I might only choose to let her put her health first. After all, the most important competition is next year’s Olympics. When I signed the consent form to withdraw from the competition, Jia Ling was still worried regarding whether signing the consent form would affect the Grand Slam on June 17th this month.

What I want to say is: We all tried our best. Regardless of whether we won the Olympic tickets this year or not, I am proud of our team. Thank you for your hard work.
