At the microphone of BX1 this Wednesday, Marc-Jean Ghyssels (PS), Brussels MP, was questioned about the violence observed in Brussels for several weeks. As a reminder, the capital has been the prey of several shootings, most of them linked to drug trafficking.

Brussels Minister-President Rudi Vervoort (PS) also declared on Monday, during a press conference, that the Region would coordinate the fight against drug trafficking and its impact on security in Brussels. The security organization Safe.brussels will attempt to tackle the problem at the regional level, in parallel with local action plans put in place in the various “priority deployment zones” (or “hotspots”) of the capital city.

The first step was to determine “hotspots”, previously approved by the mayors concerned, which will number 10 to 15. In each of them, work will be deployed through three axes, namely security , prevention and neighborhood life. The work of the local police will also be supported by the issuance of police orders by the Minister-President, for example regarding the temporary ban on nitrous oxide or alcohol. Police orders may also be issued by mayors in order to establish specific rules for hotspots (such as, in particular, prohibiting access to certain places, systematic identity checks, etc.).

“Who will carry out all of these checks, day and night? », questions Brussels MP (MR) Gaëtan Van Goidsenhoven, questioned at the same time as his PS colleague. “We must be able to identify the human resources that make these objectives realistic” over time.

“We must challenge the Federal government and find additional means,” continued Marc-Jean Ghyssels, who suggested calling on the army. “Not to patrol the streets, but for static posts: schools, synagogues or embassies. »
