Táchira selected 143 projects in the Popular Consultation

This Sunday, the second day of the Popular Consultation was held in which the state of Táchira decided on 143 projects that will be developed in the coming months in the various judicial circuits of the entity. During the event, the governor of the state of Táchira, Freddy Bernal, stated that this type of call goes beyond the selection of regional and municipal authorities, because “people are voting for projects inherent to their own territory.”

He said that the communities debated in assemblies what was inherent to them, resulting in more than 2,000 projects, of which each circuit chose seven and this Sunday one was selected during the election. “The one that received the most votes will be approved. What does this mean? That tomorrow the state of Táchira will have 143 communal projects elected, proposed, debated by the community itself. What better exercise of participatory and leading democracy than this?” he asked.

Bernal said that 143 tables were set up in the afternoon of Saturday, August 24, and that the centers were opened at 6 a.m. on Sunday, and would remain active until 6 p.m. or until there were voters in line.

“We are the only country in Latin America that has a Constitution in which participatory and proactive democracy are inscribed. It is the expression of the greatest strength of the people, it happens today in this type of projects, that is why I congratulate our people, because there is increasingly greater social awareness, greater awareness of organization, greater awareness of mobilization,” he said.

He recalled that Nicolás Maduro ordered at least three consultations per year, so that another election of projects at the national level could take place by December. He specified that the first selected projects are already underway.

He highlighted that in the first consultation, 135 communal circuits were selected, for a total of 146 projects, while this time there were 143 communal circuits, eight more than the first time. He added that the disbursement of resources is through the Federal Government Council.
