The psychologist from Tachira, Nepllivan Niño, recommended that people who feel affected by the current situation in Venezuela seek the support of a professional so that they can have the strategies and tools to avoid the consequences.

The psychology professional explained that in the case that a person has an episode of fear, the ideal thing is to be able to talk to those closest to them, but also to look for spaces where they can be attended to professionally. She explained that there is only one element that generates fear, but everyone is experiencing it in a different way and the ideal thing is that may be accompanied by psychological care.

He said that leaving it aside, not having the treatment and support that is required can bring a counterproductive consequence for the state of health of the person, not only from a mental point of view, but the body can also be affected, since it will be felt through the different organs.

He specified that in the event that the person cannot attend a private consultation, he can do so in public entities that provide the service. He added that there are networks through which online psychological care is being provided to provide psychological first aid, “this psychological first aid is to help them get out in the moment of a crisis, however, what is indicated is to assist with psychological support, until being discharged where the person already feels in balance of their emotions, then there is attention in different health means so that they can be accompanied.”

About people who are currently feeling hopeless, frustrated and angry, he said that they should focus on themselves; on the balance between body, mind and soul.

She explained that if we balance ourselves and nourish ourselves in body, mind and soul, we will be able to overcome what we feel and to do so, it is necessary to know that we need a break, to set limits, to remember that we are human and that we deserve to be observant in order to balance feelings and thoughts.

He pointed out that it is very important and necessary to stop the mental dialogue that is often so fast that it generates a great collapse of emotions such as irritability, hopelessness, sadness, frustration and many others that can be felt at these moments.

He recommended conscious breathing exercises, that is, inhaling deeply through the nose until you feel satisfied with the air in your lungs, holding your breath and mentally counting to three seconds, then exhaling deeply through the mouth and mentally counting for five seconds and finally counting five more seconds, which is a space to breathe again. He explained that this cycle of breathing should be repeated three to five times, depending on the intensity of the emotion.
