Táchira/Palmira bids farewell to citizen killed in polling station

Sadness and nostalgia took hold on Tuesday, July 30, of the family, friends and neighbors of Julio Valerio García, 40 years old, during the burial ceremony that took place in the chapel of Patiecitos, Guásimos municipality, Táchira state, after he was murdered on July 28 outside the Jhon F Kennedy electoral center by hooded men.

The Eucharist in the presence of the body was officiated by the parish priest, Fray Reynaldo Chirinos, who expressed the need to bear fruits of love, peace, justice, respect, solidarity and joy, which are reflected in thoughts, words and actions.

«Love always asks for more, let us not be afraid. Let us ask God for their families, for their relatives, for their acquaintances, for the enormous embrace of our brothers together. May God in his love and in his grace and in his mercy let us participate in this human peace, this peace where there is no mourning, no crying, no despair, but the joy of finding ourselves in the arms of the Lord. Love always asks for more, let us not be afraid. May Mary, Mother of Consolation, the beautiful flower of the Andes, cover him with her hand and may the Holy Christ of La Grita receive him in her lap,» he said.

After leaving the church, Garcia’s body was taken to the local school and to his home. It was later transferred to the San Cristóbal cemetery.
