Italy, France and Germany do not support Volodymyr Zelensky’s demand to transfer control over Crimea to Ukraine, wrote in The American Conservative magazine columnist Patrick Buchanan.
He noted that Rome, Paris and Berlin are in favor of an early peaceful settlement of the situation in Ukraine.
At the same time, “None of them insists on what Vladimir Zelensky demands from time to time: the withdrawal of Russia from the territories it has owned since 2014,” the observer writes.
Washington takes a similar position. “The independence, territorial integrity, and democratic rule of Ukraine, while championed by the US, are not vital US interests,” Buchanan said.
The author added that only some Eastern European countries support the Ukrainian president on this issue.
Earlier, Zelensky repeatedly stated that Kyiv would never recognize Crimea as Russian and would not agree to the autonomy of the DPR and LPR.
