Poland draws with Croatia, Portugal unexpectedly loses points
Polish national team on Tuesday evening she was taking it Croatia as part of the 4th round League of Nations. The first edition of the competition at the National Stadium is a real rollercoaster. The match started perfectly for the White and Reds, but then “Hrvatska” came to the fore and scored three goals in just six minutes. Just before the break, Nicola Zalewski scored a contact goal. In the second part, the Poles equalized the score thanks to Sebastian Szymański. Ultimately, however, the competition ended with the score 3:3, even though we played the last quarter with an advantage of one player.
In Tuesday’s second Group 1 match, we saw him in action Portugal. The 2016 European champions took up the challenge Scotland. Not much happened in the first half. First of all, there were no goals, so the teams went into the break with a goalless result. The second part of the competition had a similar course, so the result did not change. Therefore, there was an unexpected distribution of points at Hampden Park.
The table has not changed in the “Polish” group. The White and Reds are still in third place. Portugal retained its leading position, with Croatia right behind them. The red light of Group 1 is Scotland.

Poland draws with Croatia, Portugal unexpectedly loses points
Grab your popcorn, folks, because the Polish national team just treated us to a football spectacle that had more ups and downs than a high-speed rollercoaster! On Tuesday evening at the National Stadium, Poland faced off against the equally spirited Croatia. Now, if you thought this match was just going to be another dreary 0-0 affair, you clearly underestimated the power of a decent rivalry and a penchant for dramatic twists.
It started well, with the White and Reds looking sharp—like they had just taken their best suits out of the dry cleaners. But then, out of nowhere, “Hrvatska” decided to remind everyone why they’re a force to be reckoned with, scoring three goals in a breathtaking six-minute blitz! Talk about a footballing equivalent of a mid-life crisis—you think you’ve got it all together, and then bam! Three goals later, you’re questioning every decision you’ve made in your life.
Just when you thought the game might turn into a Croatian party, Nicola Zalewski popped up just before the half-time break to make it 3-1. Ah, football! It has the uncanny ability to take your heart and play hopscotch with it. And as the second half rolled on, the Polish team, feeling emboldened (perhaps fueled by some strong coffee and lots of enthusiasm), rallied back to equalize with a shining goal from Sebastian Szymański. So, we ended up with a nail-biting 3-3 draw, despite the fact Poland was playing a man up for the final quarter. It’s almost as if they decided to partake in a classic comedy skit: “We can’t manage to win even with an extra player. Let’s just make it entertaining instead!”
But wait, there’s more! In the other thrilling match of the evening, Portugal, those audacious 2016 European champions, took their talents to Scotland, where they were treated to a delicious feast of nothing—yep, that’s right, a splendidly underwhelming goalless draw. I mean, if ‘excitement’ could be measured, these two teams just hosted a seminar on how to keep absolutely no one on the edge of their seats. By the time the final whistle blew, the scoreline seemed less ‘football match’ and more ‘really awkward dinner party’—everyone was there, but no one was having a good time!
Which leaves us with the table update—because, let’s face it, the standings are where the real drama unfolds! Poland remains in third place, a bit like that friend who is perpetually stuck in the friend zone of the football world. Meanwhile, Portugal is still flexing their muscles at the top, with Croatia creeping right behind them. And alas, my good old Scotland is holding up the rear as the “woe is me” of Group 1. Poor Scots, it appears the bagpipes need to play a sad tune for a while longer…
Nations League table: Division A, Group 1

---|---|---|---|---|
1. Portugal | 4 | 3-1-0 | 7:3 | 10 |
2. Croatia | 4 | 2-1-1 | 7:6 | 7 |
3. Poland | 4 | 1-1-2 | 7:9 | 4 |
4. Scotland | 4 | 0-1-3 | 4:7 | 1 |
But don’t despair too much, dear Scottish friends—remember, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Here’s hoping the Polish U-21 national team can stir up a little more cheer, as they advance to the big tournament. Fingers crossed we’ll keep that popcorn-worthy excitement rolling! Until the next match, keep your spirits high and your expectations delightfully low!
