T20 World Cup: 5 Crore per capita prize for Indian players

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced 125 crore Indian rupees T-Twenty Each of India’s 15 players will be given Rs 5 crore for winning the World Cup.

Among the recipients of the award are three players who were part of the squad but did not play a match.

According to the newspaper Indian Express, along with head coach Rahul Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathore, fielding coach T Dileep and bowling coach Paras Mehmbri will be given 2.5 crore rupees.

According to Indian Express, each of the five members of the committee, including the chairman of the senior selection committee Ajit Agarkar, will be given one crore rupees each.

The rest of the backroom staff will also be rewarded. Three physiotherapists, three throw-down specialists, two masseurs and a strength and conditioning coach will be given Rs 2 crore each.

Four reserve players, batters Rinko Singh and Shubman Gill, fast bowlers Aveesh Khan and Khalil Ahmed will also get a prize money of Rs 1 crore. Opener Yashvi Jaiswal, wicketkeeper Sanju Samson and leg spinner Yuzvinder Chahal were in the squad but did not play a single match. Each of them will get five crore rupees.

According to the Indian Express, there were a total of 42 people in the Indian squad for the World Cup. The team’s video analyst, BCCI staff members traveling with the team including media officers and the team’s logistics manager will also be awarded.

“The players and support staff have been informed regarding the prize money received by the BCCI and we have asked them all to submit the invoices,” BCCI sources said.

BCCI sources said that ‘A day following the team led by Rohit Sharma won the T20 World Cup, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced the prize money. As far as Rs 125 crore is concerned, it will also include players, support staff, coaches and selectors.

The three physiotherapists are Kamlesh Jain, Yogesh Parmar and Tholsi Ram Yuvraj. The three throw-down specialists are Raghavendra Dogi, Nawan Odinke and Dayanand Grani and the two massage therapists are Rajeev Kumar and Arun Kanade. Soham Desai is a strength and conditioning coach.

In 2013, when India won the Champions Trophy under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the BCCI announced a prize money of Rs 1 crore for each player while the support staff was given Rs 30.30 lakh each.

In 2011, India won the 50-over World Cup in Mumbai under the captaincy of Dhoni. On this occasion, a prize money of Rs 1 crore was initially announced for the players, which was increased to Rs 2 crore.

The support staff was given Rs 50 lakh while the selectors were given Rs 25 lakh.

When Dhoni’s team won the first T20 World Cup in 2007, the team received a total of Rs 12 crore.

BCCI India did not have enough money to reward the players when India won their first World Cup title in 1983. The board approached singer Lata Mangeshkar, who agreed to hold a concert to raise funds for the winning players.
