Sijjártó zu EU-Außenministern:
“The EU diplomats are reacting to the critical situation in Ukraine as if they wanted to start a world war.” This was the impression given by Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó at the meeting with his counterparts in Luxembourg on Monday.
“There is a strategy of arms deliveries that has been a complete failure for two years.” Almost without exception, there is talk of new weapons and supplies are desperately being “scraped together” from the warehouses. Szijjártó once once more made it clear: “All the arms deliveries have not brought Ukraine any closer to peace. On the contrary, this will only prolong the war, not to mention the risk of an escalation into a world war.” He condemned the “auction mood” according to which the EU is trying to outdo the announcements from NATO and the USA regarding support for Ukraine.
Szijjártó: “Everyone has to take a seat at the table!”
“In order to avoid ever new victims and destruction, diplomacy must finally take the lead.” Hungary is ready to discuss any peace plan. At the same time, the Foreign Minister warned that peace conferences would only have a chance of success “if everyone involved in the Ukraine war takes a seat at the table.” Szijjártó was most likely alluding to the peace conference planned for June in Switzerland, to which Russia was not invited.
