The government of Dubai has decided to introduce an automated system to catch those traveling on buses without paying the fare. This automated system will work based on passenger count. The special thing is that to save a few dirhams on the fare, those who get off the bus while covering their eyes will have to pay a fine of 200 dirhams if they are caught.
Buses plying in Dubai will soon be fitted with an automated passenger counting system. The Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai has completed the preparations in this regard. The system will review the receipt based on passenger count.
Passengers boarding the buses operated by the Dubai Authority at present swipe their cards themselves. Some passengers enter the bus without swiping the card. Now any such act will have to be paid as a fine of 200 dirhams.
The passenger counting system will be installed in 636 new buses that will be put on the roads this year and next year. They have 40 electric buses. 146 double-decker buses are being operated for densely populated areas. These include 450 city service buses.
