The game ‘System Shock’, which has contributed greatly to the development of FPS games since its first release in 1994, is returning as a remake version. The main developers who developed ‘Fallout: New Vegas’ with original developer Warren Specter holding the key joined the project and are currently developing it.
Since the project was unveiled on Kickstarter in 2016, it has raised $1.3 million (regarding 1.6 billion won) and has been developing for regarding 6 years so far. Contrary to concerns that a second ‘Duke New Cam’ incident may occur, the development seems to be progressing steadily.
The released trailer is interpreted as being faithful to the original, but changing into a game suitable for a new era through graphic remastering and interface reorganization. Although it has a color with a kind of retro sensibility, the relatively upgraded graphic catches the eye. It’s not the so-called Triple-A graphics, but it seems that the game has been upgraded to the graphics suitable for the latest games.
However, it is still unclear whether the game will be able to show beyond that. In relation to this, ‘System Shock’ appeared in the early stage of the FPS game market and became a hot topic at the time by showing innovative productions such as ‘a system that tells the story by voice’ or ‘a slanted floor’. It remains to be seen whether their technology and imagination will work even following regarding 30 years have passed.
On the other hand, the release date of the remake of ‘System Shock’ has not been revealed so far.
