An 18-year-old from Elsbethen was relieved of a large amount of money through a scam using cryptocurrencies. The suspects have now been investigated – they are in Nigeria.

Two Nigerians are suspected of having contacted an 18-year-old from Elsbethen via a social media platform at the end of March and persuaded him to buy bitcoins. These bitcoins were transferred directly from the victim to the wallet (bitcoin account) of the suspects. High prospects of profit were put into the room, which enticed the victim to transfer further cryptocurrencies.

The fraud was noticed when the 18-year-old wanted to borrow another 5,000 euros from his mother – they reported it in early April. The man transferred a total of 21,000 euros in cryptocurrencies to the alleged perpetrators. The officials used the bitcoin addresses and wallets of two men in Nigeria, aged 22 and 28, to investigate.
