“Gunpowder” also smells at today’s meeting of the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA, where Stefanos Kasselakis is under fire, with members of “87” raising the issue of his deletion from the party. Katerina Notopoulou, among others, fired fierce shots against him.
Speaking at the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA on Tuesday (08.10.24), Katerina Notopoulou proposed the referral of Stefanos Kasselakis to the Ethics Committee with a request for his deletion.
“Kasselakis intensifies the climate of dissolution and conflict”, she emphasized.
More specifically, the Member of Parliament A’ Thessaloniki launched a fierce attack against Mr. Kasselakis, proposing:
1. Convening of the EC to reject his candidacy, stating that he does not respect statutory principles and decisions and that his only goal is to dissolve SYRIZA
2. Referral to the Ethics Committee with a request for deletion
Finally, she noted that “people who do not respect the decisions of this party cannot hold positions of responsibility in KO”.
It is noted that during the meeting of the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA, Olga Gerovasili, as newsit.gr had written, requested the deletion of Stefanos Kasselakis.
The executives of “87” put the matter on two axes:
Firstly, that Stefanos Kasselakis is criminalizing the electoral process by sending extrajudicial charges to his own party and is talking about the intervention of a prosecutor.
And secondly, he does not respect the decisions of the bodies such as his removal from the office of President as decided by the Central Committee.
It is recalled that in the out-of-court letter sent by Stefanos Kasselakis to the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA, in which he requests an investigation into the leak of his source, he signs as President of SYRIZA.

Analysis: The Turbulent Waters of SYRIZA – Stefanos Kasselakis Under Fire
In a dramatic turn of events, Stefanos Kasselakis, leader of the Greek party SYRIZA, has found himself at the center of a firestorm within his own party. As reported in recent news, members of the “87” faction have raised the issue of Kasselakis’ deletion from the party, with Katerina Notopoulou, a prominent Member of Parliament, leading the charge against him.
According to reports, Notopoulou proposed referring Kasselakis to the Ethics Committee with a request for his deletion, citing his role in intensifying the climate of dissolution and conflict within the party. This development comes as no surprise, given Kasselakis’ short but tumultuous tenure as leader of SYRIZA.
As a relatively newcomer to politics, Kasselakis, a Greek businessman and entrepreneur, has been at the helm of SYRIZA since his election in September 2023 [[1]]. His rise to power was seen as a breath of fresh air for the party, but his inexperience in politics has also led to controversy and criticism.
Notopoulou’s scathing attack on Kasselakis is just the latest episode in a series of challenges he has faced within the party. As reported earlier, Kasselakis was ousted as leader of SYRIZA just nine months after his election, in a move that sent shockwaves through Greek politics [[3]].
The reasons behind the mutiny against Kasselakis are complex, but it appears that his inability to unite the party and address internal conflicts has led to a breakdown in trust and communication. Notopoulou’s proposal to refer Kasselakis to the Ethics Committee is a clear indication that party members have lost confidence in his leadership.
As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Kasselakis will be deleted from the party or if he will be able to weather the storm. One thing is certain, however: the future of SYRIZA hangs in the balance, and the party’s ability to regroup and refocus will depend on the outcome of this turmoil.
