SYRIZA Shines at TEF: Pappas, Famellos, and 12 MPs Including Polakis Take the Spotlight

Half of the parliamentary group, top executives of SYRIZA and members of the Political Secretariat accompany Nikos Pappa on his tour to Thessaloniki to support the party’s effort to send a message of unity, despite the internal party problems it faces.

At the ERT3 booth, Nikos Pappas gave a short interview, while he tried not to comment on the internal affairs of SYRIZA.

“We are always optimistic and we have learned to overcome difficulties collectively and the presence of KO sends us a message of conscription and unity even with our different approaches. A message that SYRIZA will be at the heart of developments” he said among other things.

Furthermore, the need to ensure the public nature of the International Exhibition of Thessaloniki was pointed out by Nikos Pappas, during his meeting with the president of TIF – Helexpo.

At the same time, the upheavals in the party continue, with the object this time being the possible appeal to justice against the decision of the Central Committee which declared Stefanos Kasselakis deposed from the presidency of the party.

“Despite my own suggestions, Stefanos Kasselakis was clear and categorical: “At this stage, I do not want to drag the party that I love and the thousands of members to justice,” Mr. Kasselakis’ legal advisor, Charalambos Pelekis, said on a television station.

Theodora Tzakri, who insists that his removal was vicarious and irregular, speaks of a legally flawed overthrow of Kasselakis. “It is an act of extreme irresponsibility to give society the image of a disbanded party that is reeling from vocal members when there is the obvious solution to the organized functioning of the party as provided for by the law, the Constitution and the statutes. SYRIZA has a president until he is re-elected or replaced by another,” she notes.

On the other side voices can be heard from SYRIZA executives who are even calling for the removal of Stefanos Kasselakis.

“I am openly in favor of this proposal, Mr. Kasselakis has no place in the party. The man who calls Tsipras an “underminer” and talks about black funds” emphasizes the former director general of SYRIZA, Thymios Georgopoulos.

Other SYRIZA executives are promoting the unity of the space and refer to the re-election scenario of Stefanos Kasselakis.

“Of course he has hopes, but he has to be a candidate first. They have six candidates in PASOK, I believe we will be there somewhere too” said SYRIZA MP Haris Mamoulakis, when asked if Stefanos Kasselakis has hopes of re-election.

“Today, SYRIZA is no longer a movement within the Left, it is outside the Left. We are watching a comedy and a breakup” underlined the former president of the Coalition, Alekos Alavanos.

“The people of SYRIZA do not owe anything to experience this collapse. The disintegration of the party exceeds the limits of its internal test,” said the former president of the Synaspsis, Nikos Konstantopoulos.
