Despite the disclosure of the 56,000,000 euros they received from the American Authorities the “protected witnesses” of Novartis, SYRIZA insists that their identities should not be made public and argues that the government is afraid of “something else coming” and is “trying to distract”.

Novartis scandal? Let’s recall the basics: Novartis and Novartis Greece agreed to pay an out-of-court settlement of 346 million dollars to the US government to avoid further investigation for, among other things, the activities of influencing officials in Greece. The protected witnesses, regarding whom there is much talk today, justice in America has judged them to be reliable.
The fact that Adonis Georgiadis, Andreas Loverdos and Antonis Samaras insist on the so-called “unmasking”, while the Greek courts have repeatedly rejected their related requests (see, for example, the decree no. 25/2022 of the Supreme Special Court), proves their lack of respect for the institution of justice, but also their continuous anti-institutional interventions towards the Greek judges.
By asking for their identities to be revealed, in order to expose the so-called “fraud”, among other things they are endangering the European framework for protected witnesses and are seeking, in effect, to abolish it.
And the question is: Why does the government insist on revealing the identity of protected witnesses? Is he afraid of something else coming? Is he trying to intimidate or deter any witnesses in other cases?
Is it a tactic to appease Mr. Samaras, colluding with him, for reasons of intra-party truce in ND?
It is a given that by returning to something that the judiciary has already judged dozens of times, the government is conveniently trying to divert the public debate from the real, chronic problems faced by the citizens, while at the same time throwing mud at SYRIZA. The precision, the increases in energy, the strangulation of small and medium enterprises are not hidden by gimmicks. And SYRIZA will continue to highlight them.
