In a particularly tense atmosphere, the extraordinary Congress of SYRIZA-PS starts in a short time. At the moment, more than 2000 people are gathered outside the Conference area, while just a little while ago the entrances opened and the delegates started receiving their accreditation cards. In fact, there were not a few cases where tension and verbal confrontations were observed between those gathered.
Supporters of Stefanos Kasselakis outside the Congress area shout slogans “Stefan, go ahead, change everything”, “Stefan, we are with you” and protest against their non-accreditation.
Alalum prevails with informing the elected congressmen, as many of them complain with great irritation that they have not even received a notification.
The work of the Congress, which takes place amid counter-appeals between the majority and the side of Stefanos Kasselakis and complaints even of fraud, is expected to begin with a vote for the election of the presidency. This will be followed by speeches from the secretary, Rania Svigou and the president of the Parliamentary Group, Nikos Pappa.
During the Conference, Theodora Tzakri, as she had previously announced, is expected to submit a USB stick, which includes 1,934 statements by delegates in favor of the participation of Mr. Kasselakis in the elections for the nomination of party president.
Petros Pappas leaves the Conference
Petros Pappas declares that he is leaving because it is indecent to participate in such a conference. He also complains about the fact that, as they have allocated the spaces, they can’t even fit 1500 people.
Stefanos Kasselakis: “20 minutes before the start of the Conference, it has not been announced how many delegates there are”
“Six days after the elections, 20 minutes before the start of the Congress, the group that runs SYRIZA has not announced how many delegates there are. No official results have come out (for 6 whole days!)” says Stefanos Kasselakis in his post, a few minutes before the start of the extraordinary SYRIZA conference.
SYRIZA circles for Kasselakis accreditation: “There is a case that he has declared a foreign mobile number”
Stefanos Kasselakis is not at the place where the SYRIZA conference is expected to start shortly, as there is information that he has not received accreditation.
“Regarding the question of whether an SMS has been sent to Stefanos Kasselakis, there is a case that he has declared a foreign mobile number that technically cannot receive the SMS from the sending provider or that no mobile number has been declared in the registry”, SYRIZA circles point out , following the relevant information released about his accreditation.
Tension at the appearance of Christos Giannoulis – “We regretted voting for you”
Shortly after 17:00 tension prevailed during the arrival of MP Christos Giannoulis at the multipurpose hall in Gazi. Some of those gathered at the scene moved in the direction he was in and shouted: “we regretted voting for you”.
Queues of delegates and tension outside the Conference area
Queues of representatives from every corner of Greece, responding to the call made by Stefanos Kasselakis, have formed outside the multipurpose hall in Gazi, where the extraordinary congress of SYRIZA is expected to begin.
Several of those gathered state that they are delegates to the conference, who however have not received a message from Koumoundourou to participate.
Among those gathered are SYRIZA MPs Ralia Christidou and Alexandros Avlonitis.
Stefanos Kasselakis left
After the incidents outside the conference, Stefanos Kasselakis got into his car and left
A person felt unwell from the chaos at the entrance
According to information, one person from the crowd reportedly felt unwell.
A corridor was hastily created in order to get him out.
Stefanos Kasselakis is back
Stefanos Kasselakis returned to the place where the SYRIZA conference is scheduled to take place and continues to talk to the people.
Bloods flared – Attempted raid
An attack was attempted by some of those gathered outside Gazi Live.
Evangelos Antonaros had an intense confrontation with the security officers and a few pushes with them a little while ago.
Episode with Apostolos Gletsos at the SYRIZA conference
At the same time, tension prevailed with Apostolos Gletsos as he received the “fire” of the kasselistas. He himself answered them in a strong tone, saying that “I am a democrat and a leftist”.
Afterwards, the SYRIZA leadership candidate retreated further into the conference area and the tension eased.
What we know so far
The proceedings of the Conference are already 2.5 hours behind the schedule that had been announced. As things stand at the moment, the most likely possibility seems to be that the process will start shortly with the Congressmen from the Kasselakis side not entering the venue in protest of the “cut organizations”.
However, with the election of the presidency taking place, whose correlations have been determined by the “87” in the Central Organizing Committee, things will now be irreversible for the ousted president of SYRIZA.
This as the bureau is not expected to accept votes to be held for the exclusion of Stefanos Kasselakis from the race for the leadership or for his removal from the Central Committee, as the majority considers the issue “finished” as it has declared in its announcement and the Political Secretariat.
Therefore, the first process of the Congress – when it starts – is expected to be the “sudden death” for the future of Stefanos Kasselakis in SYRIZA.
It is recalled that Stefanos Kasselakis gave his “present” and left. In an interview with ANT1, he spoke of “democratic deviation” and called on the political secretariat to resign, while he said that he will not enter the hall until all the delegates have entered. “There will be no incidents under any circumstances, we are the majority, the rest are hiding,” he added.
When he then returned, he attacked Koumoundourou saying that she had divided the conference into VIPs and commoners, pointing out that he was with the commoners “until the end”.
