In light of the recent regional developments and the rapprochement with Damascus, the latest of which was the visit of the Saudi Foreign Minister to Damascus, the Syrian Kurds announce in a statement their readiness to meet with the Syrian government to reach a solution to the country’s crisis.

  • The Autonomous Administration of the Kurds of Syria is ready to meet with the Syrian government and dialogue with it and with all Syrian parties

The Kurdish Autonomous Administration, which controls large areas in northern and northeastern Syria, has expressed its willingness to meet with the Syrian government, with the aim of reaching a solution to the crisis in the country, in a move that comes in light of the accelerating Arab openness towards Damascus and the recent regional changes.

The Autonomous Administration said in a statement distributed on Tuesday: “We affirm our readiness to meet with the Syrian government and dialogue with it and with all the Syrian parties, in order to consult and discuss to present initiatives and find a solution to the Syrian crisis.”

The statement appealed to the Arab countries, the United Nations and all international forces active in the Syrian issue, to “play a positive and effective role that contributes to the search for a common solution with the Syrian government.”

In its statement, the Autonomous Administration affirmed its adherence to the “unity of the Syrian lands,” stressing the importance of “establishing a pluralistic, decentralized, democratic, political administrative system that preserves the rights of everyone without exception.”

In a remarkable position, the Kurds’ statement called for “fair distribution of wealth and economic resources among the Syrian regions, including oil and gas fields, the most prominent of which are located in their areas of control.”

The statement said, “We stress once once more the need to share these resources through agreement with the Syrian government through dialogue and negotiation,” as are the resources “existing in other regions.”

Since 2018, the Autonomous Administration has engaged in several rounds of talks with Damascus, without achieving any results.

The Kurdish Autonomous Administration’s statement was issued hours following Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan’s visit to Damascus, where he met President Bashar al-Assad at the presidential palace, in the first visit since the diplomatic break following the outbreak of the war in 2011.

The Syrian presidency said, in a statement, that President al-Assad assured the Saudi foreign minister that “the healthy relations between Syria and the Kingdom are the normal state, and reflect an Arab and regional interest as well.”

The Syrian president repeats accusing the Kurds, who formed a spearhead in confronting the “ISIS” organization, and managed to defeat it from large areas in north and northeastern Syria with US support, of “collaboration” with Washington, which is leading an international coalition once morest the extremist organization.

Al-Assad said in an interview during his recent visit to Moscow last month, in response to a question regarding the Kurdish units, that “any party or individual working for a foreign power is simply a traitor and an agent.”
